Pérez Art Museum Miami: Beyond Representation (Sept 21, 2024 – Nov 7, 2024)

Kicking off on September 21, 2024, Beyond Representation at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) brings the Caribbean diaspora to the forefront of performance art. Organized by PAMM’s Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI), this series explores the social and cultural narratives of artists like Jeannette Ehlers and Tirzo Martha.

The first event, We’re Magic. We’re Real #3 (These Walls) by Jeannette Ehlers, invites the Afro-Caribbean community in Miami to collaborate in a braiding circle. This will be followed by a live performance on September 26. Martha’s performance workshop series continues through October and November. It will conclude with a collective performance on November 7.

Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach, Brussels: Gordon Matta-Clark and Maria Legat (Sept 13, 2024 – Dec 21, 2024)

In Brussels, Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach opens its doors to two standout exhibitions. Maria Legat’s Wider Kontrastwut began on September 13, 2024, featuring large-scale paintings that confront current social issues.

On September 20, the gallery also welcomes Gordon Matta-Clark’s solo exhibition. This is the first major showing of his work in Belgium in more than two decades. Matta-Clark’s architectural interventions and immersive installations, including his renowned Office Baroque (1977), take center stage. These works reimagine space and form in exciting ways.

Untitled Art, Miami Beach (Dec 3, 2024 – Dec 8, 2024)

Returning for its 2024 edition, Untitled Art, Miami Beach will run from December 3 to 8. The VIP preview will take place on December 3. This year’s fair explores the theme of “East Meets West”. It will focus on cultural intersections and showcase galleries from Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.

Over 40% of the 171 exhibitors will feature solo or two-artist presentations. This format will offer an intimate look into diverse contemporary works. The ‘Nest’ sector returns, offering subsidized booths to foster accessibility for emerging galleries. Participants in this sector include Negrón Pizarro from Puerto Rico and Project K from South Korea.

Art Week Tokyo (Nov 7, 2024 – Nov 10, 2024)

From November 7 to 10, 2024, Art Week Tokyo will spotlight the city’s thriving art scene across 53 venues. This year’s lineup includes presentations from iconic Japanese artists such as Keiichi Tanaami, Yoshitomo Nara, and rising star Yuko Mohri, Japan’s representative at the 60th Venice Biennale.

Additionally, AWT Focus, curated by Mami Kataoka from the Mori Art Museum, will feature 57 artists exploring Asian visions of the future. AWT Video will also present 14 moving-image works, curated by Sohrab Mohebbi from New York’s SculptureCenter.

Art Basel Paris (Oct 18, 2024 – Oct 20, 2024)

Art Basel Paris will take over the French capital from October 18 to 20, 2024, with VIP previews on October 16 and 17. This year’s edition introduces five new venues, including the Petit Palais and the Domaine national du Palais-Royal. These additions further deepen Art Basel’s connection with Paris’ rich cultural heritage.

A highlight this year is Miu Miu’s special project, Tales & Tellers, part of the Public Program. Art Basel Paris will also present Oh La La!, an initiative re-hanging unexpected works from 33 galleries. The popular Art Basel Shop, curated by Sarah Andelman, will return, offering exclusive products from artist collective Claire Fontaine.

Fang Wu – Asian Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition, Juming Museum (Sept 13, 2024 – Jan 12, 2025)

In Taiwan, the Juming Museum presents the Fang Wu – Asian Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition, running until January 12, 2025. This large-scale group exhibition, co-curated by Liu Chu-Lan and Choi Tae Man, brings together 20 artists from across Asia. The exhibition explores the concept of “matters” and redefines the boundaries of contemporary sculpture.

New works by artists like FX Harsono, Kim Yujung, and Lee James Ming-Hsueh take center stage, along with iconic sculptures by Heri Dono and Yeesookyung. Several artists will be exhibiting in Taiwan for the first time, making this an essential event for sculpture enthusiasts.

Vincent Valdez: Just a Dream… at CAMH, Houston (Nov 15, 2024 – Mar 23, 2025)

Opening on November 15, 2024, Vincent Valdez: Just a Dream… is a comprehensive survey of the artist’s work, spanning over two decades. Hosted by the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH), this exhibition is co-organized with MASS MoCA. It marks the first time CAMH has dedicated the entire museum to a single artist.

Valdez’s monumental portraits address themes of identity, politics, and the American dream. His Beginning is Near (An American Trilogy) series is a central feature, exploring America’s history of systemic inequality and the hope for a more just future.
