Miami Art Week 2024 offered an unforgettable blend of artistry, luxury, and sustainability. After a whirlwind of Miami Art Week 2024 previews, we had a chance to relax and enjoy luxury events tied to art and inspiration. Each event exemplified how art intersects with sustainable practices, luxury innovation, and the evolving landscape of art collecting. Here’s a recap of these exceptional experiences, shedding light on the creative forces shaping today’s art world.
The Great Elephant Migration: A Symbol of Coexistence
Opening Miami Art Week on December 2, “The Great Elephant Migration” captivated audiences at Mid-Beach. Presented by ReefLine, Elephant Family, and Art&Newport, this installation featured 100 life-sized Indian elephants crafted from invasive lantana camara plants by Indigenous artisans from India’s Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The use of lantana camara, an invasive plant species, emphasizes sustainable art-making practices by reclaiming a material harmful to local ecosystems. The intricate sculptures reflected the artisans’ knowledge of the elephants they coexist with, adding an intimate connection to the works.
The elephants stood majestically on the beach, symbolizing coexistence between humans and wildlife. The evening also highlighted ReefLine’s marine initiatives, including the Miami Reef Star, a 60-foot sculptural installation previewing their 2025 underwater sculpture park. The ReefLine project is a significant step toward merging art and marine conservation, and it aims to create habitats for marine life while engaging the community. Carlos Betancourt and Ximena Caminos, notable voices in Miami’s creative scene, played pivotal roles in advancing these projects that fuse art and ecological awareness.

Rossinavi at Design Miami: Reinventing Yachting with Sustainability
At Design Miami, Rossinavi unveiled its Solsea hybrid-electric catamaran—a testament to sustainable luxury. Designed by Yves Béhar, this yacht marries cutting-edge technology with eco-consciousness, offering up to 90% electric propulsion for multi-day trips. The Solsea also features a unique energy management system, powered by AI, that maximizes energy efficiency while reducing environmental impact. Solar panels integrated into the design provide additional clean energy, further enhancing the yacht’s eco-friendly credentials.
Guests attending the seminar, “The Future of Yacht Design,” learned how Rossinavi’s innovations reduce carbon footprints while elevating bespoke yachting experiences. Yves Béhar shared insights into his design philosophy, emphasizing the importance of creating vessels that harmonize with their environment. The vessel’s AI system optimizes energy use and ensures seamless interactions between crew and technology, showcasing the possibilities for future luxury yachts. For collectors interested in blending adventure with sustainability, Solsea is a shining example of responsible luxury. A deeper exploration of this discussion and more about Federico Rossinavi will be featured in Live in Italy Magazine’s January Art+Design edition, TASTE’s sister publication.

The Cartier Trinity 100 pop-up celebrated a century of the Maison’s iconic three-band design. The Maison’s decision to celebrate in Miami underscores the city’s significance as a luxury destination during Art Week.
Each room provided visitors with a unique glimpse into Cartier’s craftsmanship, from a retrospective of Jean Cocteau’s influence in the 1930s to the collection’s modern reinterpretations. Exclusive to the Miami pop-up, visitors had the opportunity to try on rare pieces and explore Cartier’s heritage through exhibits showcasing archival designs. Hong Kong Tourism Board: A Culinary and Artistic Experience
On December 5, the Hong Kong Tourism Board hosted a sunset cocktail at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. This activation was part of its global partnership with Art Basel. It introduced attendees to Hong Kong’s rich culture. The “Cha Chaan Teng” pop-up featured pineapple buns, egg tarts, and milk tea. These paired perfectly with Mak2’s digital-meets-physical art installation, “Sweet Home Invasion.”
Guests were welcomed with a glass of rosé Champagne. They sampled an exquisite menu that included Salt and Pepper Tofu, Char Siu Bao Sliders, and Hong Kong Tacos. Other highlights were Typhoon Shelter Crab Croquettes, Char Siu Pork, Crispy Pork Loin, and Hong Kong Roasted Duck. Desserts complemented the savory dishes, enhancing the indulgent experience. The Hong Kong Tourism Board highlighted the city as a global hub for culinary and artistic innovation. With Art Basel Hong Kong set for March 28-30, 2025, the event showcased opportunities for art, culture, and food lovers.

Swagger Miami Art Weekend Kick-Off: Style and Modernity
To round off my Miami Art Week journey, we also attended the Swagger Magazine’s kickoff event at One Ocean South Beach on December 5. This luxury condominium is in the exclusive South Pointe neighborhood. The event featured luxury experiences and an artist showcase by Narine Arakelian. It celebrated modern art’s vibrant role in the luxury lifestyle. Arakelian’s work, merging sculpture and multimedia elements, added depth to the evening’s offerings.
Co-host Cindy Prado and an open bar curated by Authentico Tequila and Peroni added to the glamorous atmosphere. Sommsation elevated the experience with a personal introduction to fine wines by one of their sommeliers, complemented by delicious bites. The venue, One Ocean South Beach, provided an elegant backdrop, reinforcing the event’s emphasis on exclusivity and luxury. While this event leaned more toward indulgence than sustainability, it highlighted the growing demand for contemporary art that resonates with today’s affluent collectors.
